Sonam's sister Rhea forgot to pay dues?

A furniture store owner was not paid his dues by Rhea Kapoor, Sonam’s sister, after using items from his shop for her film, 'Khoobsoorat'.

A source says that initially, the team planned to rent the furniture — including chairs, centre tables, sofas and wooden trolleys — only for a month but later stretched it to around 45 days. “When the shoot shifted from a hotel in Bikaner to City Palace in Jaipur, the team contacted the vendor again and told him that they needed 18 more items for an additional two days. But the team returned only 12 pieces within the said two days, and the remaining six were sent back after a week,” says the source. The source adds that the vendor’s team repeatedly tried to contact the production team to address this delay and the payment for the extra pieces, but to no avail. “A member from the production team told the furniture vendor that additional pieces had been rented out by the arts team without their permission/ knowledge and that payments for the same cannot be made.” When contacted, Rishi Miglani tried to brush the issue aside, refusing to share the amount he is owed. “What has happened is unfortunate and I am sure that Kapoors are not aware of this. This issue is between the production team and me,” he said. The source, however, says that dues add up to Rs 44,000. Production designer Shruti Gupte remained unavailable for comment.

When Emraan and Huma got jittery over a love scene

Shooting for intimate scenes may be a child’s game for Emraan Hashmi but for his co-star Huma Qureshi, it proved to be quite tough to get the act going. And incidentally somehow her discomfort happened to rub off on Emraan as well.
Huma Qureshi
Huma, who plays Emraan’s wife in a film, apparently had to shoot an erotic scene with the actor. A source says, “Huma was aware of the scene where she has to get intimate with her husband and even lock lips. It was an integral part of the story and she was fine it.” The source adds, “Emraan too became nervous. However he made her comfortable. After a couple of retakes, it came out well.”

Emraan Hashmi
Director Kanan Iyer feels such scenes are just part and parcel of films and not much should be made out of them. “It is just yet another scene for us although I too was apprehensive. But we should treat it like a regular action or comedy scene. And as far as nervousness is concerned, I feel it is normal. While doing emotionally high-strung scenes, every actor feels nervous for the first time,

Are Minissha Lamba and Andrew Symonds dating?

Now this is some fodder for gossip. Buzz is that Minissha Lamba could have something special going on with Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds. And this is the same Andrew who had enraged Indian cricket fans with his racist remarks against Harbhajan Singh.
Minissha Lamba and Andrew Symonds
A little birdie chirps to say that the two have been spotted in different parts of the city on more than one occasion. The birdie says, “Andrew was chilling around with Minissha at her birthday bash at a lounge on Friday evening along with lots of other close friends till the wee hours of the morning. The two were again spotted partying at a suburban club on Saturday evening and the revelry went on till next morning.”
Insiders say that the two have been close friends for more than a year and have many common friends. A friend of the actress says, “Actor Harman Baweja is a common friend.” On another occasion Minissha was seen dining with the Aussie cricketer at a suburban hotel and the two were looking quite comfortable in each other’s presence. Minissha was seen laughing and chitchatting throughout. Recently, the two even went to watch a film together.

Ranveer Singh in Rajkumar Hirani's next film?

Apparently the director has given Ranveer a call and has asked to meet him.
Ranveer Singh
A source says, “Ranveer can barely control his excitement. Ranveer met Vidya Balan a couple of days ago and told her about the call.” The actor is believed to have gushed to the former Hirani heroine about how much he has wanted to work with the filmmaker.
Rajkumar Hirani
And Vidya apparently told the actor, “You should definitely go and meet him. He is very mad about his work.” The source adds, “The meeting is yet to take place but one wonders if it is about a film they will talk about.
Could Raju be having second thoughts about his Aamir Khan film or the third installment of the Munnabhai series?” Ranveer had earlier also been approached for Vidhu’s film with Sharman Joshi and Humaima Malik. However, things didn’t work out then. Second time lucky, maybe?

Why was Dawood's name removed from 'Shootout At Wadala' promo?

Sonu Sood

What’s in a name? Apparently a lot as the producers of Sanjay Gupta’s upcoming action thriller think. Just 10 days ago, the film’s first-look was released that introduced its characters with their on-screen names. However, a new promo is out that has omitted names of all the controversial characters.
Gupta’s film is based on gangsters like Manya Surve and underworld kingpin Dawood Ibrahim and cop Isaac Bhagwan. Our source says, “Sonu Sood plays Dawood while Manoj Bajpai plays Sabbir. Anil Kapoor will be seen as Isaac and John play Manya. However in spite of the first promo creating the necessary buzz, the new promo strangely has no names of these characters.”
An industry insider comments, “One wonders if there has been any pressure from the original characters to remove their names. Also Ekta Kapoor was always adamant to use the real names and the project has been promoted in that manner. This new development seems completely strange.”
In safe zone?
Buzz is that it is just a strategy embraced by the production house to stay safe, considering that the promos were generating too much attention. Also the recent outcry by super-cop Issac might also be one of the reasons. Suddenly he seems to have developed cold feet.
There are also whispers that people connected to the underworld could have raised strong objections to the content of the promo. Tanuj Garg, CEO of Balaji Motion Pictures says, “It’s our strategy to release a new promo creative for the net in quick succession.” Gupta remained unavailable for comment.

Salman exempted from court appearance 83 times in 10 years

A court document obtained by a tabloid indicates that the superstar's recent exemption from a court appearance in the hit-and-run case on his 47th birthday was the 83rd such instance in the past decade.

Of all the public appearances that are lined up on his busy diary of commitments, Bollywood superstar and accused in a 2002 hit-and-run case Salman Khan has been let off from the kind that is least expected - those that require his presence at the court of law. A court document obtained by a tabloid has revealed that the actor has been exempted his court appearance a whopping 83 times in the past decade.

On December 26, MiD DAY reported how the Bandra police had failed to serve him the court summons, even though he was spotted in the same week at a high-profile party and shooting in Mehboob Studios ('Cops can't find Salman Khan'). He has also been reporting to work on the sets of his TV show.

Subsequently, Khan was exempted from the court appearance on December 27, which happened to be his 47th birthday. Khan's sisters Alvira and Arpita, and his lawyer Dipesh Mehta appeared at the Bandra court on behalf of the birthday boy.

'Generosity of cops'
The shocking court statistics came to light in a court petition filed by Santosh Daundkar asking about the inordinate delay in the case proceedings. The petition says, 'The Salman hit-and-run case happened in 2002 but the trial in this case is still far to end, even though more than 10 years have elapsed and 90 court hearings have taken place'.

Daundkar's petition accuses the Mumbai police of abetting the star's evasion of the law courts: 'It is the generosity of the Mumbai police which has helped Salman evade the powerful clutches of the law for so long...

A perusal of the roznama (record of daily proceedings) of the Court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Bandra reveals a startling story of how Mumbai police has indulged in nepotistic acts in ensuring that the trial of Salman Khan gets delayed. It is precisely because of this nexus that 10 years have passed but the end of the trial is still far away'.

On June 10 2005, the Bombay High Court had exempted Khan from making personal appearances at court, but conferred upon the trial court the authority to summon him if necessary. Khan has since been making the most of this order to avoid making appearances in court.

Daundkar's petition questions why no application has been made against this order. 'Police has never made an application to the court for personal appearance to expedite the trial. As seen from almost all the 98 pages of the roznama, Salman Khan has remained absent on every date. He has remained absent for more than 82 times from the hearings of the case'.

`The police could have made an application to the trial court to summon him, so that the trial would be speeded up. In other words, the Mumbai Police, especially Bandra police, is helping Khan illegally,` said Abha Singh, Daundkar's lawyer.

The case
On September 28, 2002, Khan was arrested after he allegedly rammed his car into a bakery in Bandra and ran over several people who were sleeping on the pavement, killing one person and injuring four others.

Expertspeak
`Salman Khan is getting the unfair advantage of such exemption. It was the duty of the Mumbai police to have moved the appropriate court to get the exemption order cancelled,` said Amit Nalawade, a noted criminal lawyer.

Out of town? Not quite
On December 24, the police told Daundkar that Salman could not be served the summons as he was out of town. On that very day, he was spotted at a party organised by socialite Anu and her husband, businessman Sunny Dewan in Bandra. As a matter of fact, Special Inspector General of Police Parambir Singh was also present at the same party.

Cops speak
`Whether the accused appears in court or doesn't is not the lookout of the police. This is concern of the court and concerned lawyers. The court should issue notice to Salman Khan,` said a police officer on condition of anonymity. Salman's lawyer could not be reached for comment.

DP and Anushka: Are they really on good terms?

The ad world is becoming more and more lucrative for actors and actresses trying to make moolah away from the box office.

And with it comes several rumours about actors/actresses trying to outdo each other.

On a similar note, there was recently some gossip doing the rounds that Anushka Sharma had slashed her endorsement fee in order to snatch a deal away from right under Deepika Padukone's nose.

However, the actress is furious that someone should try to malign her name and states that her `army background` would never allow her to stoop low.

DP and Anushka: Are they really on good terms?

Anushka says, `There is absolutely no catfight. People just try and drag you into issues.

It's not my problem that people try to pick actresses at random and create wars between them. I have nothing against anybody.`

The actress, while stating that she is `too dignified` about her professional work, adds, `It shows poorly on my upbringing.

I don't fight with other girls over things and I don't need to do that either. I remain dignified about the way I carry myself.`

She also feels that she has sufficient endorsement deals in her kitty right now and that she does not need to slash her fee to steal someone else's (read Dippy) ad.

`I find it very cheap to be saying I have X number of ads. I don't need to slash my price. Period.` Point noted madam!

Poonam Pandey on a boozy ride for 'Nasha'

"When the celebrations began, I was already in Nasha," chuckled Poonam Pandey on shooting her tereal life prty to be part of her film Nasha.

"Our director Amit Saxena has come up with an idea to include few portions of the party in the movie. Everyone is enjoying including the crew and I am excited about it," said Poonam.

On being asked about the innovative idea, Poonam said, "My director wants to keep the drink scenes real in the film and it wouldn't have been better than our 31st party celebration. I guess it's like the Hollywood movie Hangover."

"Its also done to make our film more real as it deals with Nasha. I am enjoying too much and I am already high so didn't think about my New Year resolution," concluded Poonam.

Aamir wants severe punishment for rapists

Condemning the Delhi gangrape incident, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan emphasized on the need of women empowerment to act as a tool for country's progress.

"In the 2-3 years journey of my show 'Satyamev Jayate', I have learnt two things...one is that until we empower women and girls, our countrywill not progress," Khan told media.

"Severe punishments should be awarded to the guilty in these cases. Separate fast-track courts should be formed for speedy justice...people should come to know that we can't get away with our crimes," the actor said.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old medical student who was subjected to gruesome torture inside a bus in the national capital on the night of Dec 16 when she was returning home after a film show with a male companion, is still not out of danger.

"She is conscious but not out of danger..She is communicating," said a doctor at New Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital where the victim is being treated.

Another doctor said the victim is still on ventilator.

"Her condition got worse due to internal bleeding last night," he said.

While the national capital erupted in anger and violence over the brutal gangrape of the Delhi girl, the victim's father has appealed for peace to everyone.

Speaking to some TV channels, the father of the girl said his daughter is a fighter and would survive the attack.

"My daughter is a fighter all her life. She is brave and she will survive the ordeal. Pray for her health," said the father of the victim.

Women don't invite rape: SRK

As thousands of people march on the streets of various cities in India to protest the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old paramedical student in the nation's capital and the inability of security agencies to curb crime against women, many film and TV actors expressed their concern and highlighted loopholes in the legal system.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has also extended his support to the gangrape victim of Delhi.

At the announcement of Zee Cine Awards 2013 in Panchgani, Shah Rukh said, `I am extremely shocked, saddened and disgusted. I have been watching and reading a lot about it. We hear some talk about women inviting trouble because of the way they dress when they travel alone late at night.

"I would like to say that women do not get raped because of these things, they get raped because men rape them. That is the main issue here.`

`Men in our society need to understand this, we need to take a call. It is a very sad incident. Instead of politicising it, we should take action by making more stringent laws, having courts that can dispense justice swiftly and of course, we should have a special task force in every city, every State, which should look into such heinous crimes.

"I have been brought up by women, I have been surrounded by women, have been personally and professionally been encouraged by women in every sphere of my life. I have an immense amount of respect for women,` he said.

Deepika Padukone who will soon perform at the upcoming Zee Cine Awards also voiced the same words as Shah Rukh.

`I think exactly the same. Women are constantly blamed for the way they dress. It is high time that we do something about stopping such crimes. The rules and the laws should become a lot more strict and action needs to be taken and faster,` she said.

Zee TV has also attempted to showcase in its shows the message of social relevance through its various shows and characters.

In Qubool Hai, the track highlights how it is not right to perpetrate crimes against women.

So, instances in Qubool Hai resonate with the topical burning issue as the lead protagonist, Zoya (Surbhi Jyoti ) is shown being kidnapped and forced into a nikaah as an example of feudal mindset and Humeira (Ketki Kadam) is almost molested showing how men are trying to take advantage of women.

"We are trying our best to speak up against growing crimes against women in India in every way we can. That girl could be anybody's friend, sister or mother so we need to stand up and raise a voice against it...our track is a small way of connecting with and empowering our audiences," said Surbhi (Zoya of Qubool Hai).

Karan Singh Grover (Asad of Qubool Hai) said, `Many social workers across cities work to empower the women victims of violence to fight their own battles. We often tend to blame the rise in crime graph on external factors such as media and Western culture, but the harsh reality is that such crimes are an extension of how we behave with women in our houses."

"If a person is able to slap his wife in front of his son, you cannot expect the same person to respect other women in society. There is no sure shot solution to such crimes. It is a grey area. It needs a multi- pronged approach.

"While police should take crime against women seriously, large mass education and giving a definitive message are equally important."

"And, I am referring to the kind of upbringing we give to children and what is taught to them in the school curriculum. Bottom line is that our mindset should change to respect women. Educate men to respect women and empower women!` he said.
